ASSISTID Marie Curie Fellows

The first and largest programme of it's kind in Europe (2014-2019)

One of the major projects being coordinated by the DOCTRID RI is the €9M ASSISTID programme which is cofunded by the European Commission and the charity RESPECT as part of the prestigious EU Marie-Curie programme. ASSISTID will fund up to 30 researchers to develop, assess and improve technology solutions to enable people with Intellectual Disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder to communicate, learn, work, play, and function more easily in the world.

ASSISTID is the largest research and training programme in Assistive Technologies in Europe and will train the future leaders in research and service provision for people with ID or ASD. These projects all aim to have practical real-world impact to increase social inclusion, education, employment and independent living for people with ID or ASD.

ASSISTID was launched on May 15th 2015 by the Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Maire Geoghegan-Quinn at St Josephs Centre in Clonsilla, Dublin. The Commissioner spoke of her support for this new and exciting programme and highlighted the importance of this research in helping the lives of those with ID and ASD. The application process is now closed.

ASSISTID has attracted top quality international researchers from a broad range of disciplines including behaviour analysis, rehabilitation, computer science, engineering, special education, genetics and occupational therapy. Researchers are strongly encouraged to work in partnership with Disability Services and other public-private sector partners to maximise their training and career development and ensure their research has real world applications to better the lives of people with ID or ASD.
